As the weather shifts from fall to winter, we may start thinking about wooly knits to comfort to cooler evenings. What if we could knit our own scarves, socks and mittens? What if we could gift them?
There are so many benefits to knitting and starting a new hobby, including creative expression, stress relief through the meditative repetitive motion of knitting, and social connection by learning with others at a local cafe over baked goods and hot drinks.
Terri from Ed’s Mercantile is offering knitting workshops at a local cafe in Bedford Park. Choose from:
Beginner’s Knitting Workshop
(Choose one date: Oct 29, Nov 5, Nov 26, Dec 3): Participants learn all the basic skills needed to start their adventure in knitting. Terri will show you how to cast on and knit in both garter stitch (just the knit stitch) and stockinette stitch (both knit and purl stitches) as well as how to cast off to give everyone a firm grounding in the foundations of knitting.
Intermediate Knitting Workshop
(Choose one date: Nov 12, Dec 10): Already know how to knit? Let’s take your skills to the next level and knit in the round! The project? Knit a cozy hat for winter using circular needles and show show off your new skills all season long.
Advanced Knitting Workshop
(Choose one date: Nov 19, Dec 17): This advanced workshop is all about colour! Learn how to incorporate several colours into your project using the Intarsia colourwork technique. We’ll make a cup cozy in class that you can use for your morning java run!
