Wen-Do is the longest running Women’s Self-Defence organization in Canada in operation for over 50+ having served over 100,000+ women and girls around the world.
The name combines a contraction of the word women with the Japanese word Dō, meaning “way”.
This workshop will be taught by Alexandra Wiseman, a social worker and certified Wen-Do instructor with a Master’s in Human Kinetics, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master of Social Work. Her teaching emphasizes the mind-body connection and self-awareness, and she brings a heartfelt passion for empowering others.

physical + verbal self-defence techniques
discussions about sexual violence, relationship violence, harassment + more
explore workplace scenarios including outdoors, workplaces, school, home, cars, parties + more
learn resources + skills to support others and ourselves
Where: Location provided after registration, Avenue + Lawrence (free parking)
When: Wednesday September 3, 5:30 to 8:30 pm (3-hr workshop)

Let’s knit together at a local cafe! Last winter Terri from Ed’s Mercantile taught a small circle of Bedford Park neighbours how to knit at BB Cafe in the hood. Back by popular demand, we are co-hosting another Knit & Sip Circle in the hood!
Come alone, with your child, your friend or neighbour and join us for a cozy winter Knit & Sip at a local cafe in Bedford Park.

Beginner’s Knitting Workshop
Participants learn all the basic skills needed to start their adventure in knitting. Terri will show you how to cast on and knit in both garter stitch (just the knit stitch) and stockinette stitch (both knit and purl stitches) as well as how to cast off to give everyone a firm grounding in the foundations of knitting.
Intermediate Knitting Workshop
Create your own Circle! Invite your friends and neighbours and start your own knitting Circle. We will help you find a local cafe or host it at your home.
Already know how to knit? Let’s take your skills to the next level and knit in the round! The project? Knit a cozy hat for winter using circular needles and show show off your new skills all season long.
Advanced Knitting Workshop

This advanced workshop is all about colour! Learn how to incorporate several colours into your project using the Intarsia colourwork technique. We’ll make a cup cozy in class that you can use for your morning java run!
